Rick Owens and Diplo Are Here to Fix Your Summer Shoe Rotation (Separately, Sadly)

June is here, and the first official day of summer is right around the corner. Do you already have a next-level rotation of summertime kicks on deck? If so, good on you. If not, you’re in luck because two top-tier collaborations are set to drop, and both are a surefire way to add a splash of head-turning style to your closet. First up is the latest gothed-out installment from designer Rick Owens and Birkenstock—and just a bit more unexpectedly, the first-ever collaboration between mega-producer-slash-DJ (and shirtless aficionado) Diplo and Crocs.

For a few years now, Owens has been reimagining styles from the iconic German comfort-footwear label with his signature gothic swagger. We’re talking full-grain leather, felt, and pony hair, and all in mostly dark, monochromatic shades. This is the designer’s third collaboration with Birkenstock, and it’s just as great as the others before it. This time, Owens has set his sights on the Arizona and Boston—the brand’s sandal and clog styles, respectively. He’s coated each silhouette in all black, from the leather to the hardware. (And is perhaps using the shiniest black leather you’ll ever lay your eyes on.) This latest collection is currently available via Rick Owens and is expected to also drop via Birkenstock in the upcoming weeks.

For something completely different, you can look to Diplo x Crocs. At this point, it isn’t a huge shock to see a big-name celebrity team up with the brand that made plastic clogs infamous. Everyone from Post Malone to Justin Bieber to Bad Bunny has lent their name to the injected-foam footwear. That said, none have been quite as tripped-out as these pairs from the mind of Diplo. (Plus, he is probably the only celeb who got naked on Instagram to announce the collaboration.)

Each style features a swirled, multicolor print, not unlike a sought-after Grateful Dead shirt. The collab includes four options in total, split evenly between Crocs classic clog and sandal. The kicks come with eight glow-in-the-dark Jibbitz (that’s the Crocs-speak for charms) as well, including bulbous mushrooms, Diplo text graphics, and more. The collection is set to drop via Crocs starting June 8.

If there was ever a time of year to wear a blacked-out pair of sandals or a trippy tie-dyed plastic clog, summer would be it. You might also consider buying both—though we can only advise wearing one pair at a time.
